Brunel Shipping EST. 1986

Meet the Team

We are always ready to talk to you when you call – so please do pick up the phone. Here’s who we are and what we do – as well as what we look like – so that you can put a name and face to every voice.

Phil Clayton

Phil Clayton

Managing Director

Founder and MD of Brunel Shipping, I have been working in the shipping industry for more than 50 years. I’ve seen the company manage all manner of freight-forwarding, including major projects such as organising an entire steel works to be shipped out of South Wales and into Eastern Europe and India. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieve every day, and am thrilled to have my son Rich working with us. Away from shipping, I played rugby for more than 20 years (and the company continues to sponsor Caldicot RFC, my local club, in Wales), but these days I’m less likely to be holding a rugby ball and far more likely to be found with a glass of red wine!

Air Freight Manager

I’ve worked at Brunel for almost a decade – after several years of nagging my dad to give me a job – and am currently head of air-freight operations. I deal with bookings, quotations and documentation for all aspects of air-freight import and export, and will pitch in anywhere and everywhere else, to constantly improve my knowledge of our business. Although my job is demanding (that’s probably why I have grey hair already), I find the whole industry fascinating and it’s a privilege to work with such a great team of people. When I’m not in the office, or on the lap-top, or on the phone, I love to travel and to play and watch rugby – and am also partial to the odd glass of red wine…

Air Freight Operations

I first worked for Brunel Shipping in the 1980s. I assist in the air-freight department with documentation and bookings, and love a challenge – I’m in my element trying to find a solution to unusual cargo requests from shippers. When I’m not perusing the atlas, you’ll find me with my nose in a good book, and I love music, Anime and being a mum.

Head of Operations – Sea Exports

I have more than 40 years’ experience in the shipping business – 30 of them with two major shipping lines, and the other decade or so in transport, warehousing and freight-forwarding. I joined Brunel Shipping in 2009 and specialise in sea freight. My extensive experience proves invaluable for advising customers on all aspects of the shipping process, whether it’s finding the most cost-effective solution for standard shipments, or dealing with complex, out-of-gauge and project cargo movements. I’m proud of the fact that because Brunel is a truly independent company, we don’t have to try to shoehorn clients’ needs into certain systems – instead, we can always provide the best solution for each and every shipment. Most of my spare time is taken up with my family and pets, but I also enjoy reading and following sport.

Head of Operations – Sea Imports

Having worked in shipping for almost 30 years, covering both imports and exports, I joined Brunel in 2005. I’m primarily responsible for the import side of the business, which involves everything from liaising with overseas agents to delivery and customs formalities in the UK. In my spare time, I enjoy walking, swimming, reading, going to live concerts, and travelling the world.

Imports/Exports and Documentation

I joined Brunel Shipping in 2006, having already clocked up experience in freight-forwarding, and in the shipping department of a manufacturing company. Now, my main role is to arrange export shipments and issue all the necessary documentation, including preparing and presenting the documents involved with Letters of Credit. I also work with imports – including everything from arranging and booking the shipment to monitoring delivery. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, walking my dog, and camping.

Administration and Documentation

I have worked for Brunel Shipping for ten years. My duties as an export clerk include completing customs entries, Bill of Lading instructions, and invoicing. When I’m not in the office, you’ll find me at home with my husband and two sons, or socialising with my friends. I also get to travel all over the world to attend IVF seminars, because I am the world’s first “test tube” baby!
